Hamburg's planetarium is among the most visited in Europe, and its home alone is worth a look: a huge 1920s water tower in the middle of Stadtpark, converted into a theatre of stars โ a very German piece of building reuse. Under the dome runs a changing programme: journeys through the cosmos on some of the world's most advanced projection and sound, children's shows, and evening music events beneath the stars. Most shows are in German, but in many the imagery is the star; some run in English or with translation โ check the programme and book ahead, as evening shows sell out. At the top of the tower, an outdoor viewing deck over the park and city is usually included with a visit.
