One of Panama's longest beaches, a broad strip of golden sand stretching for kilometres along the Pacific coast of Chiriquí, fringed by palms and thatched huts, with warm water and moderate waves most days, so it feels calm and almost empty on weekdays. At low tide the beach widens greatly into a vast expanse of sand where visitors stroll and flocks of pelicans and gulls fly overhead. At one end simple restaurants under thatched roofs serve fried fish and coconut water. The beach is quiet and away from crowds, so highland people come to warm up from the mountain chill, and visitors pair Boquete's cool air with the coast's heat in one trip. Sunsets over the ocean are lovely here. The sun is fierce and shade scarce, so bring a hat and sunscreen. Currents can be strong on some days, so swim where others do.

A vast beach.

It is calm and almost empty on weekdays, a little busier on holidays when highland visitors come.
