Poço Azul, the «Blue Well», is a cave in Nova Redenção in the Chapada Diamantina, about twenty kilometres from the Poço Encantado, with a crystal-clear underground lake. Unlike its neighbour, floating is allowed here because the flow renews the water faster, so visitors see cave fish up close and a submerged arched rock that looks like a shark's jaw. A complete fossil skeleton of a giant ground sloth, a Megatherium, was found on its floor and taken to the Federal University of Bahia, and further remains of extinct megafauna have been found since. Sunbeams reach the water from February to October, best between 12:30 and 14:00. The visit itself takes 20 to 30 minutes, though queues can be long in season, and entry is about R$70 per person (2024), floating included.
