Poço do Diabo, the «Devil's Pool», is a waterfall and swimming hole on the Mucugezinho River near Lençóis in the Chapada Diamantina, about twenty kilometres, some 25 minutes by car, from the town centre where the hotels are. It lies close to the BR-242 highway, which makes it a good choice for anyone short of time or keen to avoid long trails. The trail is easy, following the riverbank where the first natural pools appear along the way, with some steep descent before reaching the river. The pool's water is dark and cool at first, and the river gets its reddish tint from plant matter, like many rivers in the Chapada. There is a snack bar, a souvenir shop and toilets on site, and entry is free according to guides. It is often paired on the same day with the Mosquito waterfall and the nearby Pratinha and Gruta Azul caves. Watch for slippery rocks and avoid swimming after heavy rain.
