**Free** โ an open village. โ **The small beach in the middle of the village is sandy and very shallow**, with **natural shade from tamarisk trees** โ a rare advantage on Milos; โ but it is **small and fills** in August. โ **Options are limited**: a few tavernas and guesthouses, **not always a cash machine** and no large supermarket โ Adamas is 10 km away for those. โ **The waterfront tavernas price fish by the kilo** โ ask the weight and price before ordering. โ **You need a car** to move around the island; the bus reaches it but runs few services. โ **The Kimolos ferry** leaves from here (about 15 minutes, carrying cars) โ **and its schedule is seasonal and wind-affected** โ check on the day. โ **Exposed to the north wind** at times despite the bay. โ **Much quieter than Adamas** and better for sleeping. Allow **two hours**, or a night.
**A small fishing village at the northeastern tip of Milos** โ the quiet alternative to busy Adamas, and the best place to sleep on the water. A row of white houses curves round a **small sheltered bay**, with a quay of fishing boats in front and fish tavernas right on the water โ and a **small sandy beach**, shallow, in the middle of the village itself, which is unusual. Behind it are **tamarisk trees** giving natural shade over the sand โ **very rare on Milos**, where there is almost no vegetation. โ From here the **ferry to the small island of Kimolos** leaves โ a fifteen-minute crossing to a very quiet island of empty beaches. โ It is **genuinely small**: a few streets and tavernas โ no nightlife, no shopping and few services. โ But it suits families and anyone wanting a real island rather than a resort.

**Three entirely different choices โ and it depends on your car and what you want.** โ **Adamas**, the main port: **the most practical** โ ferries dock here, there are cash machines, supermarkets and pharmacies, the widest choice of rooms and food, and most boat trips leave from it. โ But it is **the busiest and noisiest** and the least attractive. **Choose it if you have no car or are staying only two nights.** โ **Pollonia**: **the quietest and nicest to sleep in** โ a small bay, tavernas on the water, a beach in the village and natural shade, plus **the Kimolos ferry**. โ But it is **very small** with limited options and **needs a car**. **Choose it for families and longer stays.** โ **Plaka**, the hilltop capital: **the most beautiful** โ white lanes, a sunset view from the castle and the archaeological museum. โ But it is **away from the sea**, its lanes are closed to cars and parking is hard. **Choose it if you love villages rather than beaches.** โ **The rule**: a first visit with a car โ **Pollonia**; without a car โ **Adamas**.
**Yes if you have a spare day and want an island with almost no tourism.** โ **What it is**: **Kimolos** is a small island directly opposite Pollonia, with a few hundred residents, **and few visitors** โ among the least touristy of the Cyclades despite being minutes from Milos. โ **The crossing is easy**: a small ferry from Pollonia, **about 15 minutes**, **carrying cars**, several times a day in season. โ **What you find there**: **Chorio** โ a white village of lanes and a Venetian castle; **near-empty beaches**, best known **Prassa** and **Kalamitsi**; and the strange banded rock at **Skiadi** โ a white mushroom-shaped formation reachable only by boat or a long walk. โ **What you do not find**: many facilities, cash machines, or regular transport โ **carry cash and water**, and take your car if you can. โ **The ferry is wind-affected** โ check on the day, and do not cross on your last day.
