Ponta do Corumbau is a sandy point on the «Discovery Coast» of southern Bahia, in Prado municipality near Monte Pascoal, and one of the most isolated and hardest-to-reach spots in the state. Its showpiece is a narrow strip of sand that runs hundreds of metres out into the sea at low tide, above all around new and full moon, when the sea pulls far back and the strip becomes a sand road into the water that you can walk along for up to 500 metres. Natural pools full of colourful fish form between the reefs, and the sea is calm and the water warm. One of the most popular outings is a boat trip to the Itacolomi coral reefs to snorkel among the marine life. The road from Prado passes the village of Guarani and then runs some 57 km more, so plan the trip around low tide.
