The Anita Garibaldi Bridge is a cable-stayed bridge in Laguna in southern Santa Catarina, one of the largest bridges in Brazil and the country's second curved cable-stayed bridge. It runs more than 2.8 kilometres as a dual carriageway, with a 400-metre central span held by sixty steel cables and two towers over fifty metres high. Construction began in 2012 at a cost of about R$777 million to improve the BR-101 highway linking southern and northern Brazil and ease the area's chronic congestion, and it opened to traffic in July 2015. It is named after Anita Garibaldi, Laguna's most famous daughter. The bridge's elegant curve over the lagoon can be seen from the shores and the road, best at sunset when its towers and cables reflect on the water. Anyone driving the coast towards Laguna and Florianópolis crosses it.
