**An immense white cliff falling vertically into turquoise water, with a thin ribbon of sand at its foot** — on Lefkada's west coast, and one of the most familiar images of Greece. The name means **"the goat's harbour"**, because once only goats could reach it. ⚠ **The approach goes down, not up**: you first stand **on the cliff edge**, where the car park and the famous view are, **then descend some eighty to a hundred steep steps** to the sand. ✅ **The colour comes from the cliff itself**: white limestone reflects light through the water, **making it a luminous turquoise** rather than blue. ⚠ **The beach is narrow** and shrinks considerably at peak. ⚠ **And it is fully exposed to the westerly wind** — it can close or become unsafe on a blowy day.

**By boat for most people — by car for anyone who specifically wants the view from above.** ✅ **By car**: you get **the famous clifftop view** — the picture you have seen, **which you do not get from a boat** — and you go when you like and stay as long as you like. ⚠ **The cost**: **an hour's drive** on a narrow, winding mountain road from Lefkada, **a car park that fills before 10:00** at peak, **and 80–100 steep steps down and back up** in the heat — **which genuinely rules many people out**. ✅ **By boat**: daily trips from **Nidri** and **Vasiliki** — **no steps, no driving and no parking** — usually calling at other beaches too (Egremni, Agios Nikitas) and sometimes the Meganisi islets. ✅ **The extra benefit**: **approaching from the sea reveals the cliff's true scale** — a sight no lesser than the view from above. ⚠ **The cost**: **a fixed schedule** you do not control, and trips **can be cancelled in wind**. ✅ **The ideal answer if you have two days**: one by car for the view, one by boat for the swim.
