The Prachov Rocks are a rock formation in Czechia about 5 km west of the town of Jičín, 37 km southeast of Liberec and 74 km northeast of Prague in a straight line. They have been a protected nature reserve since 1933, in the region called the Bohemian Paradise. The rocks are sandstone that was once a single plateau, carved by wind and rain over more than 60 million years into unique shapes. Some towers are named for their looks, such as the Leaning Tower, the Devil's Kitchen, the Monk, the Elephant and the Eagle. Scenes from a number of films and TV series were shot here. Pale grey sandstone towers and pillars rise among pine and birch woods, with very narrow clefts and steps cut into the rock winding between them. From viewpoints on the tops a view opens over a maze of rock towers poking out of the forest. Visitors follow marked paths among the rocks, some running through passages so narrow you almost have to turn sideways, and climb to the viewpoints. It makes a day trip from Prague or Liberec.
