Brava is a beach and upscale district in the north of Santa Catarina Island, about 25 km from central Florianópolis and 37 km from the airport, held between green hills that separate it from Ingleses on one side and Lagoinha do Norte on the other. It runs for about one and a half kilometres, with soft yellow sand 25 to 80 metres wide and clear water. Its name means «Wild Beach», and it fits: strong waves have made it one of the island's best-known spots for surfing and bodyboarding, so less confident swimmers should stay near the lifeguard posts and watch for currents. Behind the sand stand modern apartment blocks and houses close to the sea, with restaurants and beach stalls. In summer it draws a young crowd with live music; for the rest of the year it is quiet. From its northern end a short trail climbs a hill over Lagoinha do Norte, or you can walk south towards Ingleses.
