Feiticeira, the «Sorceress» beach, is one of Ilhabela's best-known beaches, in the Cambaquara district five kilometres from the ferry and 11.5 kilometres south of Ilhabela village, between Portinho and Julião beaches, reached by a walk of about 200 metres from the main road. The beach is 250 metres of thick, sloping sand, with two waterfalls emptying between it and the rocks to the south. A sugar mill once stood here, where the São Matias farm is today, its colonial-style house filling the left end of the beach; bathers pass the house and an artificial waterfall built by the farm's old owners that spills onto the sand. A legend tells of an old owner of the farm who grew rich in the 19th century, buried a treasure and lost her mind, which gave the beach its name. Its plants are Atlantic Forest and its waters rich in algae. It suits calm swimming; follow safety advice.
