Lagoinha is a beach village in the municipality of Paraipaba on Ceará's west coast, about 100 to 115 kilometres from Fortaleza, around an hour and a half by car. The village sits on a hill above the bay, and its natural lookout takes in the coconut groves lining the sand, one of the best-known views on the state's coast; the classic photo is usually taken from the top of the slope leading up to the lookout. The sea is calm and clean with moderate waves, good for swimming, and to the left the beach grows ever emptier, backed by dunes, all the way to the Trairi River. Behind the village lie two freshwater lagoons, the Lagoa do Jegue and the Lagoa das Almécegas, reached by beach buggy. The beach has kiosks, restaurants and guesthouses, with buggy, quad-bike and «jangada» sailing-raft trips on offer, and day tours run here from Fortaleza.
