Praia da Lua, «Moon Beach», is a freshwater river beach on the left bank of the Rio Negro about 23 kilometres from Manaus, reached only by boat from the Marina do Davi in a ten- to fifteen-minute ride for a small fare. The beach is at its best in the low-water season on the Rio Negro, when wide white sands appear at the edge of the forest, contrasting with the river's dark, tea-coloured water. It is busy on weekends and holidays, when people from Manaus come to swim and relax, and vendors sell local dishes and drinks. Amazonian rivers change depth suddenly and have currents and submerged tree trunks, so take great care when swimming and stay close to the shore. It can be combined with other nearby Rio Negro beaches on a boat trip.
