Castanheiras Beach is a small beach in the heart of Guarapari, south of Vitória, one of the town's postcard sights, ringed by hotels, restaurants and shops. It takes its name from the tropical almond trees that shade the seafront, their shadow reaching the water at some times of year. The beach is about 140 metres long, and its key feature is the reef that forms several natural pools of calm water at low tide, suited to families with children and older people looking for a gentle, safe swim. From the nearby Ipiranga lookout you can see the neighbouring beaches, among them the black-sand beach. In high season the beach gets crowded, so go early in the morning or on weekdays, and check the tide tables to see the natural pools at their best.
