Guaecá is a beach in São Sebastião on the north coast of São Paulo state, facing Ilhabela island, lined mostly with holiday homes and backed by hills rich in Atlantic Forest. It is popular with surfers, and at its northern end the Morro das Sete Voltas serves as a launch point for hang-gliders and paragliders. Its water swings between perfectly calm days and days of strong waves and currents, and its sand is pale and soft. At the southern end, short trails lead to small, empty coves that locals call «prainhas». Reaching them is hard in the rain, as the trails flood and the only way back is to swim, so choose a dry day and watch the sea conditions.
