Juquehy is a popular beach in the municipality of São Sebastião on the São Paulo north coast, running about 3.5 kilometres of fine white sand and clear water between Barra do Una and Praia Preta. It lies between the Atlantic Forest-clad mountains of the Serra do Mar State Park and the ocean, 35 kilometres from Bertioga and 150 from São Paulo, and The Guardian named it among Brazil's best beaches in 2012. The beach has two faces: its right-hand end has good surfing waves, while the left-hand end is calm, suited to swimming and families with children. Hotels, inns, restaurants, kiosks and shops serve visitors around it. It is known for its traditional cooking, including «pescada à cambucu», made with the local hake. Where the mountains meet the sea, dense vegetation hides rivers and small waterfalls that visitors seek out. The beach suits a weekend or a full day; visit outside the summer holidays to avoid crowds, and check the Rio–Santos road conditions on rainy days.
