Majorlândia is a fishing village and beach in the municipality of Aracati on Ceará's eastern coast, about 12 km from the town of Aracati and 170 km from Fortaleza, and just 6 km from the famous Canoa Quebrada. The village was founded in 1937 by Major Bruno da Silva Figueiredo, which gave it its name: «Majorlândia», the «Major's Land». The beach is long and wide beneath cliffs of sand coloured red, yellow and white, like those Canoa Quebrada is known for, but calmer and less crowded. Fishermen's traditional «jangada» sailing rafts still rest on the sand, and the coloured sands are layered into decorated bottles sold as souvenirs. At low tide shallow pools form among the rocks near the shore. Majorlândia is usually visited with Canoa Quebrada on a day trip from Fortaleza or a stay in the area, and dune buggies run along the sand between the two villages. It has simple seafood restaurants on the beach; bring sunscreen and water, as the sun is fierce all year.
