Meaípe is a beach in the Meaípe district of Guarapari, on the southern coast of Espírito Santo, running about four kilometres and six kilometres from central Guarapari, reached along the coastal «Rodovia do Sol». It was an old fishing village and keeps that character, and a Brazilian travel magazine once counted it among the country's most beautiful beaches. It is best known for its seafood cooking, above all the «moqueca capixaba», Espírito Santo's traditional fish stew, cooked and served in the state's traditional black clay pots, and people come to Meaípe's restaurants specially to taste it. Like all Guarapari's beaches, its sand includes dark «monazite» grains, traditionally prized for healing properties, which earned Guarapari the nickname «City of Health». The beach suits a day of swimming and a seafood lunch, on a trip from Vitória about an hour away by car. It gets busy in summer and at weekends, so arrive early.
