Pernambuco is a beach and upmarket neighbourhood in Guarujá on the São Paulo coast, also known as «Jardim Pernambuco» and considered one of the town's loveliest areas. The beach runs about 1,800 metres between green hills covered in Atlantic Forest, away from the tall apartment blocks that line the town-centre beaches. The area is known as a favourite of famous artists and for its grand houses set in gardens; it is a mainly residential area devoted to holidaymaking, with almost no commerce, which gives it a calm rare on this coast. A large hotel stands at one end, and next to it is the Morro do Mar Casado, joined to the beach by tongues of sand. The beach suits a quiet day of swimming and relaxing amid nature, away from the crowds of Pitangueiras and Enseada. With few shops around, bring water and food or rely on the few kiosks on the sand. It is reached by car from central Guarujá along the road heading north.
