Pirangi beach lies on the Rio Grande do Norte coast south of Natal, split by the Pirangi River into «Pirangi do Norte», in the municipality of Parnamirim, and «Pirangi do Sul», in Nísia Floresta. Pirangi do Norte is the most popular beach with Natal residents in summer and the best served, and it is home to the world's largest cashew tree, which draws visitors from everywhere. Pirangi do Sul is the opposite, a calm beach with gentle waves, ringed by reefs and less built-up. At low tide the coral reefs offshore form small islands and clear natural pools, reached on boat trips from Pirangi for swimming and light snorkelling among colourful fish. The beach suits a full day out from Natal, about half an hour by car, combined with the giant cashew tree. Check the tide table for the natural-pool trips, and go in the morning.
