Serrambi is a beach at the far south of the municipality of Ipojuca on Pernambuco's southern coast, between Pontal de Maracaípe and Toquinho beach, close to the famous resort of Porto de Galinhas and about seventy kilometres from Recife. It draws visitors and holiday-home owners, and its water is clear and warm for most of the year. The beach takes its name from the «cernambi» clam, once plentiful on its sand and gathered by locals in large quantities as food. Its defining feature is its headland shape: on one side natural coral reefs shelter part of the beach, forming calm, clear pools at low tide, while on the other side a steep beach with strong waves faces the open sea. The reef-sheltered part offers calm swimming and light snorkelling among fish at low tide, while the open side is for watching and walking. The beach is far quieter than Porto de Galinhas, making a good day trip from there; check the tide table to see the pools.
