Dark water.
Praia do Atalaia is the best-known and longest beach in Salinópolis, Pará, running for nearly six kilometres of broad, pale sand backed by dunes, and one of the leading coastal destinations in northern Brazil. Its most unusual feature is that cars may drive and park on the sand, the only beach in northern Brazil to allow this according to one press report, so drivers need to watch the tides closely. Cars on the sand at low tide are part of the local experience. Between the dunes, freshwater lakes form in the rainy season, the best known being the «Coca-Cola Lake», named for its dark water, caused by decomposing vegetation. The beach makes a full day between sea and dunes; mind the tide when you park.
