Praia do Canto is an upmarket district on the bayfront of Vitória, capital of Espírito Santo, known for its lively nightlife and busy shopping streets, with restaurants, hotels, cafés, boutiques, artists' studios and nightclubs. It grew out of a land development called the Novo Arrabalde, designed by the engineer Saturnino de Brito, a pioneer of sanitary town planning in Brazil, which gave it broad, regular streets; today it is one of the best-equipped districts in the city. Visitors stroll among squares overlooking the bay and small, calm beaches, and come in the evening for dinner or a café table. It is close to the Third Bridge linking Vitória with Vila Velha and to the new Cais das Artes cultural centre in neighbouring Enseada do Suá.
