Praia do Espelho (Mirror Beach) lies between Trancoso and Caraíva, about 50 km from Porto Seguro. When the tide goes out, reefs close to the sand hold shallow, calm pools that reflect the red cliffs, protected since 1993 within the Caraíva/Trancoso environmental area, hence the name. The mirror effect only appears at very low tides (0.0 to 0.3 m), ideally around full or new moon, so check the tide table. Most people come from Trancoso, about 28 km and 30 minutes away on a dirt road that becomes impassable after heavy rain; parking costs about R$20.
