Turquoise water.
Praia do Guaraú in Peruíbe on the south coast of São Paulo state runs for about a kilometre and a half between the Serra do Mar and the Guaraú River, next to the Juréia-Itatins reserve, recognised as part of UNESCO's World Natural Heritage, about eight kilometres from the town centre. At the river mouth there are mangroves where crabs live, and unlike the neighbouring island the beach has services, including kiosks and chair hire. Trails lead from it to waterfalls in the surrounding forest. Boats leave from the beach itself for a crossing of about thirty minutes to Ilha do Guaraú, with its turquoise water, where turtles and seabirds can be seen. Next door, Prainha offers one of the finest panoramic views in the municipality. It makes a full day between sea, river and forest.
