Siriú is the longest beach in Garopaba, south of Florianópolis, with about four kilometres of sand, known for its huge dunes up to forty metres high, between which natural pools form in the rainy season. Surfing is popular here. The beach lies within two environmental protection areas, one of them the Right Whale protection area, which safeguards the coast where whales come to calve in winter. At its northern end the Siriú lagoon flows into the sea, a breeding ground for shrimp and many fish. It is reached by a trail or from Garopaba's main beach through the Morrinhos district. It suits a day between dunes and sea, with a climb up the dunes for the view; follow the lifeguards' flags when swimming.
