Praia Mole lies on the east coast of Santa Catarina Island in Florianópolis, about fifteen kilometres from downtown, and runs for roughly 960 metres; «mole» means «soft» in Portuguese, after its fine, soft sand. Green hills and big boulders frame the beach at both ends, and its strong waves draw surfers, while paragliders gather on the neighbouring hills and soar over the sand. The beach especially attracts young people with its lively atmosphere and kiosks. It is reached via the SC-404 road and connects north to the beaches of Barra da Lagoa, Santinho and Ingleses, close to the Lagoa da Conceição. Waves and currents can be strong, so swim near lifeguards; the best time to visit is December to March.
