Toque-Toque Grande and Toque-Toque Pequeno are two beaches on the north coast of São Paulo state in São Sebastião, separated by Calhetas beach and just 2.4 kilometres apart. The Tupi-Guarani name «Toque-Toque» means «island», referring to the islands off each beach rather than the beaches themselves, which is why the names seem reversed: Toque-Toque Grande, the «big» one, is a small beach of about four hundred metres with a large island in front, while Toque-Toque Pequeno, the «small» one, stretches for more than a kilometre. Toque-Toque Pequeno has more shops, lodging and restaurants, while Toque-Toque Grande stays quieter and more secluded among forested hills. Both suit swimming and snorkelling on calm days, and both lie on the coast road between São Sebastião and Maresias.
