Prainha is a beach and village in Aquiraz east of Fortaleza, at the mouth of the Catu River, about twenty-six kilometres from the capital and five from the town centre; the village is the seat of the district of the same name. Prainha is known for its local crafts, above all renda, bobbin lace made on cushions in a tradition handed down among the village women, with fine pieces sold in craft shops near the beach. The beach has plenty of tourist infrastructure, with hotels, inns, holiday homes, restaurants and bars on the sand, warm water and dunes along the coast. It suits a beach day close to Fortaleza combined with a look at the lace workshops, ideally on the sunny days from July to December.
