Presidente Figueiredo, about 107 km north of Manaus, is known across Brazil as the Land of Waterfalls: forest, rivers, caves and waterfalls that make up the Cachoeiras do Amazonas Geopark. The municipality was created in 1981. Popular stops include the Cachoeira da Iracema, about 2 km from the town centre and one of the most visited; the Cachoeira do Mutum, with natural pools, about 12 km out; the Santuário das Cachoeiras, about 15 km away; and the Caverna do Maroaga, about 800 metres long, the largest cave in the area, inside an environmental protection area. Most visitors come on a day trip from Manaus.
