The Prince of Wales Hotel is a historic hotel in the village of Waterton Park, inside Waterton Lakes National Park in Alberta, Canada, on a hill above Upper Waterton Lake. It is one of Canada's grand railway hotels and became a National Historic Site in 1992. The Great Northern Railway designed and built it, and it opened in July 1927. It is 37 metres tall with seven floors in a rustic style, and it is the only grand railway hotel in Canada built by an American company. It stands close to the border with the US state of Montana. You see a huge wooden building with steep green roofs and a pointed central tower, many windows and brown balconies, on an open grassy hill. Sharp rocky mountains rise behind it, a long blue lake stretches between the mountains in front, and strong winds blow over the hill. It is about a kilometre from the centre of Waterton village in a straight line. Walking around the hotel is free, and the hotel opens in summer only.
