Puijo Tower is a 75-metre observation tower on top of Puijo Hill, a 150-metre hill that is the best-known landmark of Kuopio in eastern Finland. It stands near the city centre, about 2 km in a straight line from it. Puijo Hill is a popular recreation area with many paths and a wide trail network, including two nature trails. It holds one of Finland's first nature conservation areas, created in 1928 and now covering about 2.08 square kilometres. It is also a winter sports centre that hosts Ski Jumping World Cup events. From the top of the tower a mosaic of blue lakes, green islands and wide forests spreads in every direction, with the city's buildings on the shore of Lake Kallavesi. A revolving restaurant crowns the tower, looking out over the whole scene and serving local dishes. A lift carries visitors up to the observation deck. The view is best on clear days, and in winter the lakes freeze and the whole scene turns white.
