A long, quiet beach at the northern tip of Boracay, far from the White Beach crowds, named after the small white pierced puka shells that once covered its sand and are made into necklaces and bracelets. The sand is a little coarser than White Beach's, mixed with fragments of shell and coral; the water is deeper and bluer, and the waves sometimes stronger. Behind the beach is dense forest, and on the sand are simple stalls selling coconuts, fruit and grilled food. Visitors come for half a day of quiet, swimming and views without hotels. Many arrive on the island-hopping boat tour; others come by road on an electric tricycle. There are far fewer shells than there used to be, so take nothing from the beach. Watch the waves in the south-west monsoon, June to October, and stay close to shore unless you are a strong swimmer.
