Punta Ninfas is a headland at the southern tip of Golfo Nuevo; with Morro Nuevo on Península Valdés it marks the gulf's entrance, about seventy-five kilometres from Puerto Madryn by gravel road. An unmanned Navy lighthouse, lit since 18 July 1916, stands on it, with pebble beaches below. Southern elephant seals breed in colonies on these beaches, seen from the clifftop or up close on organised tours, and orcas sometimes come near the shore. Since 2008 a Magellanic penguin colony has grown here fast, from eight pairs to more than thirteen hundred by 2013, visited from September to April. The area lies on the private Estancia El Pedral, which runs paid tours to the penguins, the elephant seals and the lighthouse. The road there is gravel.
