An old town known as the Qianyang ancient city, in Hongjiang south of Huaihua, at the meeting of the Wu and Yuan rivers, with water on three sides and hills on the fourth. Its historic area covers 0.8 km² of blue-stone lanes and Ming and Qing houses. Its best-known sight is the Furong Tower, a classical garden built in memory of the Tang poet Wang Changling, who was exiled to this area, with a gallery of more than a hundred stone tablets carved by great calligraphers. The town also keeps an old gate, a drum tower and a guild palace, and its old buildings became a national protected monument in 2013. The town is free to wander, while the joint ticket for the main sights costs CNY 55, from 8.30 am to 5.30 pm, from 9 am in winter, per visitor guides.
