The Quebrada de San Lorenzo is a municipal nature reserve west of the suburb of Villa San Lorenzo at the foot of the eastern range, very close to Salta city. A clear stream runs through dense, humid Yungas forest, quite unlike the dry, coloured valleys of the province's south and west. Easy walking trails follow the stream and cross small bridges among moss-covered trees and climbing plants, and visitors can ride horses or watch the many birds. It is a favourite weekend outing for people from Salta. Entry is free. It is about half an hour by bus or car from central Salta and makes a quiet half day away from the city.
