Rama Lake is a reservoir in Prozor-Rama municipality in northern Herzegovina, Bosnia and Herzegovina, about 70 km north of Mostar by road and 39 km west of Konjic in a straight line. It is often counted among the most beautiful lakes in the region. The lake was created in 1968 by a dam on the Rama river, storing its water for a hydroelectric plant. It is up to 12 km long, covers about 15.5 square kilometres and reaches about 95 metres deep, and its water level can vary by up to 55 metres. Steep mountain ranges surround it, including Raduša, Makljen, Ljubuša and Vran, and its water is very clean because its catchment lies at the very start of the Adriatic watershed. Blue and turquoise water spreads between tongues of land and small islands; when the level drops, wide golden shores appear, under grey rocky mountains with forested lower slopes. In autumn the trees around it turn colour. Visitors stop at viewpoints on the surrounding roads, walk the shores and fish. The area is quiet and makes a trip from Mostar or Konjic.
