Two rivers meet.
Rampa do Caim is one of the best-known viewpoints in the Chapada Diamantina National Park, near the village of Igatu in Andaraí in central Bahia. From it you look out over the vast valley formed where the Paraguaçu and Pati rivers meet, taking in the immensity of the Vale do Pati, famous among trekkers. The viewpoint is reached by a trail of about seven and a half kilometres from Igatu. It is relatively easy but has stretches over rock, so a guide is needed to find the best route. The trail passes the abandoned village of Antônio Martim, left by the old diamond miners who built houses of stone there, and its ruins are now part of the landscape and of archaeological interest. The viewpoint is also a geological site, where the very ancient Tombador sandstones show cross-bedded layers on the walls and cliffs. There are no signs on the trail and no visitor control, so go with a local guide from Igatu, set off in the morning and carry enough water and food.
