Reine is a fishing village on the island of Moskenesøya in the Lofoten archipelago in northern Norway, above the Arctic Circle and about 300 km southwest of Tromsø. It is the administrative centre of Moskenes Municipality, about 32 km in a straight line from the town of Leknes. The village is small, covering 0.28 square kilometres with 297 residents. It has been a trading post since 1743 and was a centre of the local fishing industry, with a fleet of boats and fish-processing facilities. Norway's largest weekly magazine named it the country's most beautiful village in the late 1970s, and the view from Reinebringen, at 448 metres, has graced the covers of many brochures and books. Red and white wooden houses cluster on a spit of land above clear blue water, among them traditional fishermen's cabins raised on stilts over the sea. Sharp, towering granite peaks ring the bay, snow-covered in winter and mirrored in the still water. The E10 highway runs through the village, so it is easy to reach by car. The climb up Reinebringen is very steep, on a long stone stairway, so allow time and wear proper shoes.
