The República de los Niños, the Children's Republic, is an educational park in Gonnet, La Plata, opened on 26 November 1951 on 50 hectares of a former golf course, and considered the first theme park in the Americas. It is a small city built to the scale of a ten-year-old, with every institution of the state: a parliament, government house, law courts, port, theatre, airport, restaurants and hotels, so children learn how a city works as they play. Its small buildings come in many styles, like European castles and palaces, set around a lake with a boat, a little train circling the park, rides and green spaces for family picnics. The city of La Plata has run it since 1979. A token entry fee was announced from 2026, with the train and boat charged separately. It is great fun for families with children and pairs with the La Plata Museum in a day.
