Ciervo de los Pantanos, «Marsh Deer», National Park is the national park closest to Buenos Aires, created in 2018 around the older Otamendi Nature Reserve near the city of Campana, on the Paraná de las Palmas river. Nine tenths of its land is low and floodable, with marshes, lagoons and riverside woods; it has been a Ramsar wetland since 2008 and takes its name from South America's largest deer, which lives in its marshes. More than three hundred bird species and forty-nine mammals have been recorded here. Short trails leave the visitor centre: «Historias del Pastizal», a kilometre through native grassland with information boards, and «Guardianes de la Barranca», a kilometre and a half to a panoramic viewpoint over the vast wetland. Entry is free every day from 10:00 to 18:00, with trails open 10:30-17:00. Early morning is best for birds.
