The Rio Negro Bridge, officially the Jornalista Phelippe Daou Bridge, crosses the Rio Negro between Manaus and Iranduba just before it meets the Amazon: 3,595 metres long, with a 400-metre cable-stayed section, it is the largest cable-stayed bridge in Brazil and the only major bridge over the Amazon or any of its tributaries. It opened to traffic in 2011. It spans the largest blackwater river in the world. Its construction was controversial over fears that new roads would bring deforestation, and a 2018 study found that it did.
