Reduit Beach is the best-known beach in Saint Lucia, on Rodney Bay in the north of the island. A long strip of white sand meets clear, calm water, with palms, green hills and Pigeon Island on the horizon. Visitors love it for its cleanliness and length. Rodney Bay is horseshoe-shaped with a man-made lagoon, and it is named after Admiral George Rodney, who built his fort on Pigeon Island. The marina was built in 1985 and is now one of the largest yachting centres in the Caribbean, with 221 berths. Every December the Atlantic Rally for Cruisers arrives here with around 270 boats. You walk the white sand among umbrellas and palms, with calm, clear water. From the end of the beach you see the yachts in the marina and Pigeon Island to the north. The bay has a floating water park for children, with restaurants and shops nearby. The beach is 8 km in a straight line north-east of Castries and 2 km south of Pigeon Island. Entry is free. April is the driest month and December the wettest. Do not walk the beach alone after dark, and keep your belongings safe.
