A short historic street about 500 metres long north of Shengli Bridge near the railway station, dating back to 1898 when Russia began building the city after leasing the area; buildings from that era in Russian and European styles still stand along it. The city began renewing it in 2000, restoring some of the old buildings and rebuilding others in the same style, and it opened to visitors in May 2001; it is lined with colourful houses under pointed roofs, small domes and iron balconies, with an old Russian-era building at its end. The street is full of shops selling Russian souvenirs such as wooden matryoshka dolls, chocolate and old coins, along with seafood and jewellery shops, and it makes a short stroll together with nearby Zhongshan Square. The street is free and always open, per visitor guides. The shops are aimed at tourists, so compare prices before buying.
