The boat from Port de Sóller is easier and more comfortable and the view from the sea is better, and it suits anyone prone to motion sickness or travelling with children. The road is an experience in itself for those who enjoy mountain driving, but it is narrow, severely winding and demands concentration.
Spring or early autumn. At the height of summer the small cove fills, parking runs out early, and the heat makes the walk through the rock passage tiring. If you come in summer, go first thing.
The cove is small and pebbled rather than sandy; swimming is possible but this is not a beach in the usual sense. Anyone after a beach day will find far better options on the island's other coasts.

A small cove on Mallorca's northern coast inside the Serra de Tramuntana, a range inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage list as a cultural landscape. Getting there is half the reason the place is famous. The road descends from the mountain through severe gradients and successive hairpins, among them a bend that loops completely around itself and passes under its own bridge, one of the most photographed roads in Spain and a target for cyclists. Driving it demands concentration and is uncomfortable for anyone prone to motion sickness. The alternative is a boat from Port de Sóller, which is easier, better looking and avoids the road entirely. Plenty of visitors prefer it for exactly that reason. On arrival a passage cut through the rock leads to the mouth of the Torrent de Pareis between two very high walls. The place gets extremely crowded in summer, and early morning or the shoulder season is far better.
