A vast forest on a high plateau in Weichang County, in the far north of Chengde prefecture on the border with Inner Mongolia, run by the Saihanba Mechanized Forest Farm, a large state forest farm. Since the 1960s its workers have planted pine and larch forests on bare land; a national forest park was set up on it in 1993 and a national nature reserve in 2007. Under the Qing the area was the heart of Mulan, the imperial hunting ground, and today it mixes forest, grassland and lakes. Among its best-known spots are the Seven Star Lake wetland park with its seven natural lakes, and the seven-storey Saihan Tower, whose top looks out over a sea of forest. There has been no main-gate ticket since 2026, while some spots charge separately, such as Seven Star Lake at about CNY 60 and the Saihan Tower at about 20 to 25; the best season is June to October, per visitor guides.
