A lovely waterfall in thick forest in the hills of Paraguarí, dropping from a high rock cliff into a clear green pool ringed by boulders, trees and ferns, one of Paraguay's prettiest falls and among the easiest to reach from the capital. Visitors reach it on a forest trail that drops between trees and rocks, past smaller falls and streams, to the foot of the main fall. It is quiet and shady, a favourite escape from the city heat. The surrounding countryside is pretty, with green hills and farms, and nearby is the town of La Colmena, founded by Japanese settlers and known for its fruit. The trip can be extended to other falls and hills in the area. The falls are strongest after rain, and the trail is slippery and steep in parts, so wear suitable shoes. The last stretch of road is dirt. Paraguayan summers are very hot and humid from November to March, so carry water and a hat; winter is milder for sightseeing.
