The Salto del Agrio is a waterfall where the Agrio river drops about 45 metres into a narrow gorge, inside Copahue Provincial Park, about 18 kilometres from Caviahue village. What sets it apart are its walls of basalt, frozen volcanic lava, carved by ancient lava flows and then by glaciers into ochre, orange and yellow tones that contrast with the white water. Visitors drive there, then walk an easy trail of about a kilometre and a half to viewpoints above and facing the falls. Araucaria forests and volcanic slopes surround the gorge, and smaller falls lie on the same river. Visiting is free, and it makes half a day from Caviahue. In spring, with the snowmelt, the flow is at its strongest.
