A waterfall in the rocky Lavalleja hills north of the coast, dropping about sixty metres through cracks in dark granite into a pool in a narrow valley, a rare mountain scene in a mostly flat country like Uruguay. Around the falls is a nature reserve with trails to lookouts over the valley and falls, steps down to the base, giant boulders and wild plants. The site offers adventure activities such as zip lines, rock climbing and horse riding. The falls are strongest after rain and can shrink a lot in dry summers. There is a small restaurant and camping area, and the quiet town of Minas with its surrounding hills is nearby. The last stretch of road is dirt, so a car or organised tour is best. Rocks near the water are slippery, so take care going down.

After a rainy spell, when the falls are strong; spring and autumn are pleasanter for walking.
