Salto Encantado, the «Enchanted Falls», is a provincial park in central Misiones created on 27 June 1991, covering more than 13,000 hectares of Atlantic forest, crossed by the Cuñá Pirú stream, «thin woman» in Guaraní. Its main waterfall drops 64 metres into a deep green canyon. Easy viewpoints and wooden decks look over the canyon and the great fall, while the adventurous can descend to the base of the falls on a demanding trail of 375 steps. The park has smaller falls too, including La Olla, Picaflor and Escondido, and forest trails. 214 bird species and the jaguar have been recorded here, and Mbyá Guaraní communities live on its edges. It opens daily 09:00-17:00, with the base trail closing at 16:00. The ticket allows a second visit within 24 hours.
